Using ChatGTP to land your dream job in Forensic Science can be a game changer…if you are using it to your advantage. Now I’m not suggesting replacing your authenticity with a robot (because that is the fastest way to find yourself jobless!), but to let AI be a resource in your tool box.

Here are 4 ways you can leverage AI to stand out in your job search:
Find Job Openings Faster
Use ChatGTP to provide you with a list of websites that offer positions within forensic science. The more specific you get with your prompts to ChatGTP, the better! The more you use ChatGTP, the more the platform gets to know you and your preferences. Hopefully this will provide you with a solid round-up of leads within the forensic science community!
Prompts to try:
“Please provide me with the best job boards for forensic science positions in the U.S”
“Please provide me with latent print examiner/fingerprint open positions in the U.S”
“Where should I be looking for open positions within the field of forensic science in the U.S”
Give your LinkedIn a Glow Up
When recruiters are searching for you on the internet (yes, they will do this!), you want to wow them with your LinkedIn profile. Use ChatGTP to make yours stand out! Going the extra mile (even for something as insignificant as LinkedIn), can give you a leg up over the competition!
Prompts to try:
“Optimize my LinkedIn summary to attract forensic science recruiters, emphasizing my expertise in latent prints and crime scene investigation.”
“Help me write a catchy, yet professional headline for my LinkedIn profile highlighting my passion for forensic science, specifically latent prints.”
Perfect your Resume & Cover Letter
Now the keyword here is “perfect.” I did not say “tell ChatGTP to write me a resume and cover letter for a specific job opening.” Employers can smell AI from a mile away! Your resume and cover letter are essentially your first impression with future employers. These items should seem professional, polished, relevant, and most importantly, authentically you. Let AI guide you but don’t let it define you.
Prompts to try:
“Look at my uploaded resume. Please provide me with areas of improvements to better tailor it to [specific job] opening.”
“I am applying for [insert specific job title]. Based on the provided job description [insert job duties/description], please provide topic ideas to include in my cover letter.”
“Write a compelling cover letter for a Forensic Scientist 4 position emphasizing my experience with AFIS and crime scene processing.”* take the ideas provided here and make them your own!
Prepare for Job Interviews
Using ChatGTP and AI in general is my new superpower for preparing for interviews. Again, the more specific you get with ChatGTP, the better the end results. For example, I recently interviewed for the current job I have now. Prior to my interview, I wanted to create practice interview questions for myself so I could prepare logical sounding answers. I entered the job description into ChatGTP and asked it to “create various types of interview questions based on the provided job description.” I’ve never been more prepared going into an interview!
Prompts to try:
“Give me a list of common forensic scientist interview questions and strong sample answers.”
“Create a mock interview for a forensic lab position, including technical and behavioral questions.”
“Based on the job title and job description [insert both], please create sample interview questions. Please break the questions into technical, behavioral, and leadership topics.”
As AI is becoming ever so popular in our everyday lives, use it to your advantage. Job searching can be overwhelming! Let ChatGTP take on some of that burden and help you land your dream job in forensic science. Just remember, do not loose your authenticity in the process!
