I know that I talk a lot about self-care here at The Proper Seal, but do you know why?!? Because it’s really important and undervalued!
Woman to woman, I’m about to give you a gentle reminder that you didn’t even know you needed until now…practicing routine self-care does not make you a selfish person! It means you are practicing mindfulness so that you are better able to serve others around you!
We all know that beauty radiates from within. But hear me out. Don’t you feel glamorous and more confident when you take a moment to indulge in a few at-home beauty self-care practices?!?
I have put together a few ways you can indulge in beauty self-care at home. Personally, I LOVE a good self-care day. I have incorporated a few of these practices into my weekly routine and I always carve out time on Sundays to make sure I’m feeling tip-top to start the week!
Let’s get to pampering, shall we!
Beauty Self-Care Practices you can Try from Home
Drink your Water
According to Healthline, the average person should be drinking about 2 liters of water per day. For water-challenged people such as myself, this is a difficult recommendation to adhere to. Stay tuned for the results of my water challenge later this month!
But in all seriousness, drinking water helps to improve your skin tone, prevents premature aging, reduces puffiness, prevents acne, combats dry skin, and revives the elasticity of the skin.
Drink up, ladies!
Create a Skin Care Routine
As you age, your skin changes. What once worked for maintaining my skin when I was in my early twenties is somewhat different now being in my thirties. Maybe talk with a dermatologist or esthetician about different beneficial products to maintain a healthy glow.
Pamper the skin you’re in! You deserve it! Start each day with an ice roller to decrease puffiness, wear sunscreen, apply your daily cleansers, serums, and moisturizers, and treat yourself to a face mask every once and a while!
Enjoy a Bath
If I need a moment or two of quiet time, I enjoy a good, yet underrated bath. I’m all about bath bombs or bubble baths, the smell of eucalyptus, and listening to a good podcast.
Elevate your bath game by investing in a bath pillow, bathtub tray, relaxing candles, or by hanging eucalyptus from your shower head.
Love Your Body
Self-care goes beyond face masks and manicures! It’s important to make sure you aren’t neglecting the rest of your body.
You can love your body in a variety of ways. Recently I started dry brushing my skin before I hop in the shower. This helps with boosting circulation, aids with lymphatic drainage, exfoliates dead skin, and plumps the skin. I also recommend exfoliating and moisturizing regularly (something I need to be better at ??). Self-tanning is part of my Sunday self-care routine.
Treating yourself to a massage every now and again also does wonders for your body and stress levels! I do not have the time or the money to do this often but when I make the time for it, I feel like a new woman! Recently, I was gifted this Renpho cordless massager from Gap Science and it is a game-changer! Just taking 5 minutes out of my day after a long workout or crazy day does a world of good for my body and my mental health!
Treat yourself to a Mani-Pedi
After I give myself a manicure I feel like a boss ass b*tch! I can literally do anything! My budget does not allow for me to treat myself to frequent manicures so I invested in my own manicure/pedicure kit! I highly suggest you do the same! Also, with COVID, I have no desire to step foot into a salon.
30 minutes is all you really need to give your nails a refresh! Soak your nails, cut your cuticles, file your nails, and find some manicure inspiration on Pinterest! You will instantly have that “pick me up” feeling!
